27 Mar 2008 15:30 - 27 Mar 2008 17:00
Unit: Wageningen Expertise Centre for Chain and Network Studies
Location: Forum, Droevendaalsesteeg 2, 6708 PB Wageningen; room 34, ground floor
Organisation: Wageningen CNS

Key-note by Dr. Willie van der Broek, RIKILT – Agrotechnology and Food Sciences Group, Wageningen UR
Discussant: Prof. ir. Adrie Beulens, Information Technology Group, Wageningen University
Moderator: Dr. Jacques Trienekens, WageningenCNS, Wageningen UR

The presentation will focus on identification of emerging risks by combining signals, facts and expert knowledge. The example in this note is on the recent Melamine pet-food crisis. This case shows that – if an early warning system had been used – six weeks of time could have been spared before the link was made with hatched fish food. Pro-active identification of emerging risks can be a powerful tool to respond quick and adequate to food crises, issues or incidents. Willie van den Broek will present latest developments and Adrie Beulens will reflect on the presentation. The audience will be encouraged to take part in the discussion. Informal chat and drinks afterwards.

This meeting is the second in a series of five to be held in 2008, on topical issues in the area of Chains and Networks, discussed by university and research institute staff of WageningenUR.

5 June “Incentives in Food Chains”
25 September “FloriLog - Logistics in Flowers”
27 November “Spatial Pressures and Food Chains"
